Watch: Patrick Mahomes rushes for the longest rushing touchdown of his career with a 15-yard run
In his seven seasons of playing in the NFL, Patrick Mahomes has set new records and broken a lot of existing ones. He has elevated the standard of the quarterback position but there has been one stat that his number was underwhelming in, but after tonight, that number got a little bit better.
Patrick Mahomes scored his longest rushing touchdown of his career with a 15-yard scramble. He achieved the feat during the Kansas City Chiefs opening drive against the Houston Texans.
It was a play that almost did not happen as Mahomes struggled to find an open receiver. He eventually decided to do things himself but nearly stumbled and fell before stabilizing himself. That was it, the road to the endzone was wide open from that point forward.
Patrick Mahomes seems to be unfazed by his ankle injury
The Texans’ defense did not expect Mahomes to break through and run it himself. Not this week of all weeks. The quarterback is just coming off an ankle sprain he sustained in last week’s matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
Mahomes limped to the sidelines and walked off into the locker room. However, he was carted off from the locker room to be further examined which gave rise to the notion that the quarterback would be sidelined from action for a week or two. However, as fans guessed it right, his injury scare was a small one, and he is back doing it all for the Chiefs this week.
The quarterback was expected to be rested for a week as he will be required by the time playoffs begin in 3 weeks. It is surprising to see that in seven seasons Patrick Mahomes’ longest rushing touchdown is a 15-yard one. For it to come a week wherein his ankle health was a matter of concern is just a pleasant coincidence.
